July 23, 2007, 12:59 pmMoving forward
Well, it's been a while since I've gotten any real time on it and finally, this weekend I did. The hole in the floor got patched. One of my neighbors is a collision repair shop (I refrain from using the term Body Shop since they only do collision repair) who are a great bunch of guys and let me pick through their discarded stuff. They replace tires on just about everything they work on so I get to paw through the tires, saves me a bunch for the Mustang since I go through back tires on that pretty fast :smilespin: Anyway, back on topic, this was the best use of a Civic hood I could come up with....patch my floor

While I was inside and before it got too hot, I stripped off the tar boards off the tunnel and started prepping the dash for filling and fixing.

Also unseen, I pulled the gas tank and almost all the wiring from the car except the main harness from the battery to the dash and the motor since I replaced that last year. I plan on rewiring the rest of the car clean with a pushbutton starter and some cool switches for accessories. I am going to use a modern fuse panel, I'm so fucking sick of electrical gremlins from 40 year old wiring!

I pulled the front fenders off and discovered why the bumpers never lined up right...this think has been tweaked.

Here it is after I ground down some of that old bondo. I thought it was just a sloppy job and dripped down but it wasn't. the top surface of the fenderwell is all bondo and brass.

This helps me decide if I'm going to cut the front or not. I wasn't going to, but looking at the hack job that was done on it, I might as well go all the way and cut the front and run fenderless in the front. I checked it out with the backs (fronts??) on it and no fronts...and I like the look. I think I'll do something to make the front to rear transition a bit smoother.

And I have no idea what this is, but I dug it up out of the yard and I like it. I'm gonna clean it up and use it as a front bumper.

I have a lot of grinding/sanding to do inside and I need to pull the windows next. I'll try to get to it this week if the weather holds. Doesn't look promising today but I have faith. Damnit.

I've taken the Mustang off the road for work, but I really want to focus some more time on the Freak, so that will probably take the back burner. It has been raining for frigging weeks it seems, but this weekend is supposed to be dry, we'll see. Last night I sealed all but the passenger's side pan. Will get more stuff tonight and hit that so I can start on the rest of the interior. This weekend's goal is to get the inside of the roof cleaned and prepped, the rest of the interior metal prepped and maybe, hopefully, get the dash started. Plan for the dash is to fill in all the switch holes and smooth. I want to put in a switch panel where the stock radio would go for ignition, lights, wipers, etc. The radio is already in the glovebox door. I'm going to mount the license plate light over it on a switch that is also wired into the door switches so it works as a courtesy/reading light. I've already test fit it and it looks kinda cool. I started stripping off the old seat covers in my basement, GODDAMN those things are FRIGGING NASTY! I've got my base material already, a nice tight black weave. I am going to hit Goodwill this weekend for some more band tshirts to use a trim. Sounds fucked, I know, but I think it will work out kinda cool. So far I have 6 Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Slipnot, Cinderella, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, and Shinedown from my own personal collection. I figure 'bout 8 more should do it. I have about half of the license plates I need for my door panels. If the weather stays good on Sunday, I'll take off the front fenders so I can get a feel of if it would look ok with fronts off and rears on.

Well, the 'stang is off the road for a while, needs a few things so instead of half-assing it, we're gonna just attack it and get them all done at the same time. I need to do a brake job, rod ends and ball joints. The driver's seat frame has broken and instead of welding it back up (since I've fixed this shitty mount about 7 times, don't get the el cheapo Summit sliding seat mounts if you have anything for horsepower, they snap.) I'm going to build up a better one using 2" box steel. I will probably do shocks on all 4 corners. I'm toying with ladder bars, I don't get really bad hop at this point, but we are building up a 351W to go in it and it might need it then.
