I bought this car from Jason in the Detroit area. He's a good friend of mine and a former co-worker. He had been racing the car occasionally with parts support from Galeana's Van Dyke Dodge, but the car itself was still owned by Galeana until the spring of 2007.
Prior to my purchase, the car was taken to Sky Tek in Livonia, Michigan for safety system updates in order to meet the 2007 SCCA and NASA regulations. They added a second driver's door bar which is bent out to the inner steel door structure to provide additional driver comfort and safety. They did a good job cutting the door trim panel to accomodate this, and they mounted up a custom window net to the revised bar. They added a center net to comply with NASA regulations, and I also asked them to weld in a second (straight) door bar to the passenger's side just in case I ever want to run SCCA Club Racing events. Maybe this weekend I can take some pics of all those modifications!
Due to time constraints associated with my work schedule, I have only fixed a few things on the car so far. I swapped out the Raybestos/Wilwood racing front brake pads for original stock 1997 ACR pads, since the racing pads destroy the rotors when the pads are not up to racing temperature. I installed a NEW stock 1998-99 chrome fuel rail to replace the original one which had a broken mounting bracket. I also swapped in a very rare DOHC aluminum right side engine mount bracket in place of the original iron part. In the process, I discovered that the alternator belt tension adjusting bolt had apparently FALLEN OUT before I bought the car! Fortunately, I had a spare bolt from a prior parts car. I did some maintenance too: I ran an injector/valve/combustion chamber cleaning and did an oil change with Mobil 1 0w40 synthetic oil and Mopar "409AB" filter.
